What is View2gether and Social Viewing?

Wouldn’t it be great if you could watch a video from YouTube, MySpaceTV, or other online videos at the same time with friends who are watching on their computers? We thought so too, and that’s how View2gether was born.

View2gether lets you watch videos in synchronized viewing with your friends, participate in real-time chat and search for videos that you can add to the list that everyone in the lounge sees, plus more.

Is everyone in a lounge seeing what I’m seeing?

Yes! Sure there’s webcam streaming, but View2gether is the only site on the web that lets you take content that you didn’t publish and watch it in synchronized view. When you enter an established lounge, the broadcast is already underway. Depending on your connection speed, and it usually takes only a few seconds, you’ll be synchronized with the rest of the lounge and everyone is seeing exactly the same thing at the same time.

Can I pause the video?

No. If we gave participants the ability to pause videos, then the broadcast for the entire lounge would pause, and that would be frustrating for the other people in the lounge who wanted to continue watching. Think of View2gether as your virtual living room. You’re all watching a TV show being broadcast together. You can pick what to watch, but to manipulate the play, you have to use your TiVo or VCR which we let you do in another way, by providing you a link to the source, where you can watch a video on your own and do what you like.

How do I add videos to a lounge?

Under the chat box, you’ll see a search field. Enter whatever term you want to search for and our highly efficient, patent-pending search will locate the available videos. There may be many pages of results that you can flip through to find what you’re looking for. Just click the “pick” button and it’ll be added to the “Live Picks”. Live picks go into the lounge on a first picked/first viewed basis.

How can I make sure the video I found is the one that I want to add to the lounge?

Glad you asked, because now I can tell you about something really cool. When you’ve done a search, you’ll notice there are both “pick” and “preview” buttons. If you click “preview” the search box turns into a mini-viewer. You’re the only person in the lounge who will see what you’re previewing. If it’s the video you want to add, click “Pick”, and it goes into “Live Picks”. If not, click “Back” and you return to search.

I want to check out the video I’m watching at it’s source. Can I?

Easy. You have to allow pop-ups from View2gether for this (don’t worry, we won’t give you pop-up ads; we hate them too) and when you click the video’s title, a new window opens taking you right to that video at its source.

I found an amazing video on YouTube and I want to watch it with my friends right away. Can I skip searching for it?

For sure! Copy the URL and go to View2gether.com and paste it in the “paste a video URL here” field. You’ll go directly into instant lounge creation, which takes 5 seconds (you just have to give your lounge a name). Click the “Create My Lounge” button and presto! Instant Lounge! Send the lounge url to your friends and you’ll all be seeing exactly the same moment of the same video together and will have online chat, and all the usual View2gether functions. You can do this for any of our search sources.

A video I’m watching sucks. Can I skip it?

Absolutely. See that skip-rope icon on the main player? If you’re in a lounge by yourself and you click that skip button, the video will skip (except if you wait till the last few seconds, then we lock to buffer your next video). Now, if you’re in a lounge with more than one person, it takes a majority of the lounge to skip before the video skips.  That little meter under the skip button fills up the more people click skip. As soon as it fills, by majority choice, the current video will skip. Because, after all, it wouldn’t be fair to let one person decide what everyone else does.

Hey, this is fantastic! Can I create a View2gether profile that I can share with other V2g users?

Of course! Go to the “Profile” link at the top of the page and you can create your profile, upload photos, send and receive messages with other View2gether users and make new friends. Your profile link will also have a listing of all the lounges you’ve created.

Can I send messages to my View2gether friends when they’re offline?

Absolutely. Click your inbox link at the top of the View2gether page and then click “Compose a Message”. A list of your friends will appear - select the friend you want to message , write it and click “send”.

Can I create lounges too?

Most certainly! As many as you like! Click the “Create” link at the top of the page and if the process from that point isn’t obvious to you, then you need to spend more time online.

I just want to watch videos in a lounge with my friends, not every Tim, Dick and Brittney that might show up.

No problem! When you’re creating a new lounge, you can designate it as either Public or Private. While anyone can go into a public lounge, if you create a private lounge, you’ll be asked to make a password for it. The private lounges don’t appear in the public lounge listing and all you have to do is send a link to that lounge and the password to anyone you want to invite and only they will be there with you.

I hate you! Get out of my lounge!

If you’re a lounge creator and you want to ban someone from your lounge, click on the “x” next to their name in the chat box (which only a lounge creator will see) and they’re banned. Hate’s a bit of a strong word though, isn’t it?
